Founder
Moselle Haney
Moselle Haney started the company as Confluence Dance Theatre in 2020. It all started out during quarantine. Some of her friends and her would meet in Schenely Park and rehearse work she had choreographed. Moselle’s biggest inspiration was Dance Theatre of Harlem. In 2015, she attended a summer intensive there and knew that one day she would want to create a diverse company like Arthur Mitchell did.
The name Confluence is drawn from Pittsburgh rivers. Two rivers meet here to become one. The company was founded out of a desire to give artistic voices to those who have been marginalized by the mainstream dance community and those who wish to find their own voice artistically.
Moselle started dancing at 2 years old and throughout her training she attended programs at Ballet West, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Dance Theatre of Harlem as well as local ballet schools in Washington state, where she is from. Moselle also danced as a guest artist with DASSdance in Seattle.
Currently, Moselle is working towards becoming a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). She’ll also be working this summer as a kayak tour guide on the Colorado River. As for dance, she creates from her home studio for her own enjoyment and is currently working on a few new ballets that she hopes to put on stage one day.
